Stanford University's documentary MFA program is widely regarded as one of the best graduate programs in the country. Accepting only six students per year, it's a rigorous two-year program whose recent graduates include Carla Gutierrez (Frida, Sundance 2024) and Elizabeth Lo (Mistress Dispeller, Venice, 2024).
Thus it was an honor to be asked to give a Master Class on documentary editing at Stanford this week. I spoke about the importance of the select reel process and gave examples from Missing in Brooks County and other recent projects. After the session I had a leisurely lunch with the students, Prof. Jamie Meltzer, and Prof. Srđan Keča.
